Copilot Studio
The low code path to an agent, where the people who own the process maintain it instead of queueing behind a development team.
Product
Microsoft Copilot Studio is the low code path to a working agent. Topics, triggers, knowledge sources, and connectors are configured rather than coded, which puts the maintenance with the team that owns the process. It publishes to Microsoft Teams, a website, and messaging channels from one definition, connects to line of business systems through the Power Platform connector library, and hands a conversation to a person under rules the business sets rather than when the model gives up. It requires its own licence or message capacity, which is agreed before a design assumes it.
How it works
- Topics and triggers are defined for the questions and tasks the agent handles, in a designer rather than in application code.
- Knowledge sources are attached, including SharePoint, public sites, and an Azure AI Search index where retrieval is already built.
- Connectors reach the line of business systems the agent has to read from or write to, reusing what the Power Platform already provides.
- The agent is published to Microsoft Teams, a website, or a messaging channel from one definition rather than rebuilt per channel.
- Handoff rules decide when a conversation goes to a person, and what context travels with it, so the customer does not start again.
- Analytics show which topics are used, which questions go unanswered, and where conversations are abandoned.
- The business team maintains the agent directly, and the licence or message capacity it needs is agreed as part of the scope.
A problem it solves
Every change to a departmental assistant, a new question, a new document, a new destination for a handoff, waits in a development backlog, so the assistant slowly falls behind the process it serves. Microsoft Copilot Studio puts those changes with the team that owns the process, and keeps the engineering effort for the workloads that genuinely need it.
